LAVAGGI AIMING TO CONTINUE IN F1
With Giovanni Lavaggi's current 4-race agreement with Pacific coming to an end after this weekend's Italian Grand Prix, he is now concentrating on finalising details to continue in Formula One - either towards the end of this season or for the 1996 Formula One World Championship.
Giovanni has contributed positively to Pacific's on-going development programme and has a acquitted himself well in the Grands Prix in which he has raced to date.
"I think I have proved that I can do a good job in Formula One and that I can contribute to a team in a positive way," said Giovanni. "Pacific gave me an important opportunity to come into Formula One, and although the team is very young and operating on a tight budget, we have worked together very well in an effort to be as competitive as possible.
"My objective now is to continue racing in Formula One, perhaps towards the end of this season, and certainly for '96. I have a good relationship with Pacific, so we will keep talking, but I am also examining all the other options which exist. My sponsors have been very supportive, and now we are going to work to ensure a future for me in Formula One."
Speaking on behalf of Pacific, Managing Director Keith Wiggins said :
"Giovanni has performed well under difficult circumstances, and we are very grateful for the contribution he has made to the team over the past four Grands Prix. Without the opportunity to do any real testing, he has been forced to do all his learning during race weekends, and that is not easy, but he has remained very committed and worked hard to help us with the development of the PR02. We will be staying in contact with him, and hope to help him in any way we can in the future. In the meantime I would like to thank him for his efforts, and wish him success in the future."
